Wishlist Wednesday #1

Image
Wishlist Wednesday  @  Pen to Paper . A book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added, that we can’t wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves. Good morning/evening, readers! Today's book meme is one we can all relate to.  I simply adore JLA (one of my all-time fave authors, who wrote the Lux series), and as I've recently graduated and am in transition to uni/college, my taste in books is maturing.  Hence, JLA is perfect for my transcendence to New Adult.  A book I'm dying to read is:  Wicked (A Wicked Saga #1)  by Jennifer L. Armentrout The sequel actually grabbed my attention initially, but I guess I have to read the first one beforehand... What's on your TBR? the other one

Tell Me Something Tuesday #3

Image
Tell Me Something Tuesday  @  Rainy Day Ramblings . Post about the weekly question on your blog and link up (topics are up 1 week in advance). What are some of the worst book to movie adaptations you have seen? 1: Allegiant I'm a huge fan of this series, it was one of the major YA reads that hooked me into reading a few years ago.  I felt the same way after seeing the movie, guys.  TBH I actually found Insurgent less true to the book, but it's my favourite instalment so I think I'd be too harsh on the movie adaption.  2: Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2 Need I say anymore? 3: PJO 2 The humour they added was awesome!!! The plot line (that is from the end of the series) was not.  Previous Tell Me Something Tuesdays:  #1 #2 What movie adaptions have disappointed you the most?  the other one

Bookmark Monday #1

Image
"Bookmark Monday  @  Guiltless Reading . If you have a bookmark to share leave a comment on the Monday post."-- GirlXOXO To be honest, as long as it isn't dog earring; I basically use anything as a bookmark.  But if I'm not using an old receipt or ticket, and being a good bookworm, I'll most likely be seen using my 1000's of copies of these:  Uncoloured, of course.  Do you use bookmarks, if so; what do you use?  the other one

Check out this week's blog book memes:  Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Be sure to read them, comment, and share it! I'd love to hear what you think about the book's I discuss :) the other one

Weekend Cooking #1

Weekend Cooking  @  Beth Fish Reads . Open to anyone who has any kind of food-related post to share: Book (novel, nonfiction) reviews, cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, quotations, photographs. I'm writing this in advanced, but I'm supposed to be in NYC right now, for 6 weeks. Feeding myself without my mamma doing for me is daunting, but hopefully we can do it. I'll probably just get some frozen lasagnes and prepare them for the family I'm staying with. Or eat McDonalds... Bless 2 minute noodles <3 they make my tummy ill but they're so easy and delish... What's your easy-go-to meal?  the other one

Book Beginnings #1

Image
Book Beginnings  @  Rose City Reader . Share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. This is from Almost to Die For #1:  From this first line, it kinda sounds a bit immature and try-hard to get with the teens.  But yet, I'm hooked. I like this regrettable Miss. Bad- Attitude, who probably thinks they're "not like most girls".  I don't know how I came across this book on goodreads, it was probably from the list of "Worst YA Paranormal Romances". That list is real. It listed all my favourite books, so I knew I'd love  it.  What's an opening line that's always drawn you in?  the other one

Beyond the Books #1

Beyond the Books  @  Kissin Blue Karen . Weekly topics that focus on life … beyond books. Prompts are provided so let’s discuss! Happy Thanksgiving!!!  This is my first time celebrating the holiday.  I'm writing this in advance, but by now I should be off the plane and feeling major jetlag (after a 23hr flight, and 15hr set back)... I've graduated from high school and am celebrating it by going on a 6 week trip to NYC with a close friend of mine. Hopefully we don't drive each other nuts (unlikely).  I'm still hoping to read to reach 100 books in 2016.  What've you guys been up to?  the other one

Waiting on Wednesday #1

Image
Waiting on Wednesday  @  Breaking the Spine . Show off upcoming releases that you’re eagerly anticipating. The only thing on my mind is the 10th Anniversary edition of Vampire Academy:  I cannot wait for this to come out!  It's such a great book, it deserves so much attention. It's a shame it had to compete with Twilight (another fave of mine), because it does deserve more love. Yeah it's cliche and stereotypical, but it's really fun and the world's development is just... What book are you waiting for to be released?  the other one

Opposition (Lux, #5) Review

Image
Opposition (Lux, #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout  3.5 stars , tops. This book wasn't bad. It's just… it wasn't necessary to make a whole book out of this. Nothing happened compared to the other books. This easily could've been 3 more chapters at the end of Origin , and it would've had a better pace.  I'm glad I've finished this series. I held off for so long because I adore it so much . This was a disappointment compared to the beginning of the series, but maybe I'm just not as hyped as I was when I read the other 4 consecutively. I'm sad Dee and Katy never really reconciled their friendship to its full stake.  Beth was way more chill and less entertaining than I preferred. Daemon , as usual, was the highlight of the story. I didn't really enjoy Katy's perspective as much as his. Daemon turned a little too urban for me, with many "hella"'s and "dayum"'s . I mean, I ...

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? #1

Image
" It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?   @   Book Date . Link to your post about what you’ve read recently, are currently reading & plan on reading next … not active on Sheila’s blog right now."-- GirlXOXO Today is the last day before I jet off to New York for 6 weeks.  I have a plan to read 100 books this year, but I fell behind during my massive end of high school exams.  I'm writing this in advance but hopefully I will have read most of these in the past few days, with reviews to come-- so listen out on this blog for my thoughts.  I'm trying to read all my print copies before I leave, so then I only need to pack my kindle. While I'm over there, I may use the various libraries that I'm geeking out to endeavour.  So far this week (up to last Friday), I've read:  The Vampire's Mail Order Bride: Review   Summer Days & Summer Nights: Review   The Son of Neptune (The Heroes of Olympus #2): Review Shadows (Lux 0.5): Review...

A Month of Book Memes!

While I'm away for 6 weeks in NYC for schoolies, I'll try to prepare 6 weeks of book-related posts. Also, my reviews will irregularly be uploaded (depending on the speed I finish them). I'm still aiming to read 100 books this year, and am only now finding the time to catch up. 38 books to go! You can view my goodreads account over here [x]. Once again, credit to GirlXOXO for inspiring me with a list of book memes to create posts about. Be sure to check out my travel blog that'll share a link to very soon. I first have to write all my posts for this blog before then, of course. the other one

Shadows Review

Image
Shadows (Lux 0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout 3/5 stars It's cute, but I still like Katy and Daemon waaaaay more.  I found it really sweet to see Bethany'a family, and how they reacted to Dawson. My favourite moment was seeing pre-Katy Daemon. That was bittersweet to see, so antihuman and antiromance. When Daemon said to Dawson, 'I never want to be like you' and in love, I died. It played on my heartstrings just that little bit more. It was worth reading just to see the ending, when Beth and Dawson "disappear". I won't say anymore for the sake of spoilers, but surely check it out if you're a Lux nerd like myself.

The Son of Neptune (The Heroes of Olympus #2) Review

Image
The Son of Neptune (The Heroes of Olympus #2) by Rick Riordan  3.5 stars. AFTER 500 PAGES; THAT'S IT ? I think, so far, I prefer PJO. This series, so far, hasn't had something actually happen. 1. Juno/Gaia --TBH any goddess, are being a pain. 2. Jason/Percy don't know who they are and spend 500 pages each finding out the bare minimum 3. Both trios go on quests, but there's no strong bad-guy for it to be intense. They had to have more humour or drama to be more interesting. (Which they weren't, sadly) both quests kinda felt pointless , and the true importance was that the male protag concluded they're from the other camp… great . Why did it have to take 500 pages? To build a relationship to the new camp/trio? Not worth it , Riordan!  I enjoyed having Percy back. I didn't enjoy having the absence of Percy's memories and friends.  That wasn't fun.  Hazel was too much li...

Summer Days & Summer Nights Review

Image
Summer Days & Summer Nights by Stephanie Perkins (Editor) 2.78/5 stars Read from October 02 to November 16, 2016 I wrote an individual review for each story as I progressed. I AM NOT HAPPY. This book made me go into not 1, but 2 serious book slumps.  NEVER AGAIN WILL I READ THIS BOOK.  There were a few I wished went for longer, others I wondered why they bothered to write it-- those stories were awfully dull.  Head, Scales, Tongue, Tail  By Leigh Bardugo  Rating: 5/5  So being a book edited by Steph Perkins, about summer flings, in the span of a short story, for some reason I assumed they'd all be contemporary YA reads. But I just finished the first story and wtf the girl turned into the lochness monster and explored the ocean with her Bae?????? This is better than I expected. Extremely random, but so far, I'm loving it! The End of Love By Nina Lacour  Rating: 5/5  I was hoping for a lgbt l...

The Vampire's Mail Order Bride Review

Image
The Vampire's Mail Order Bride by Kristen Painter 5/5 stars Read from August 21 to November 16, 2016 This story took so long to read, but that's my fault... I never wanted it to end. Is this story complete twific trash that's been published with little editing? Yes. Thus, is this story weak with little originality from it's paranormal genre? Yes. Is the love story foreseeable and cliche? Yes. Cal, why would you rate this 5/5 stars? This is probably NOT worth 5 stars in other people's minds. I'm a chronic twific reader, for almost 6 years now. There is not a single day that goes by where I don't read even a chapter from a twific. This was 100% entertaining for me, and I really enjoyed the characters (probably because my Twilight-obsessed-brain recognised the loveable characters Meyer created). If you love a good fanfic, cheesy vampire romance and some hilarious one-liners with an edge of paranormal-sexy-mystery, this book is right up your ally. My iBoo...
