Reader Workouts #1

Image
Reader Workouts  @  Joy’s Book Blog . A weekly event where we share workout stories, goals, successes, and challenges. Me? Workout?  You're right. I don't. Except for this year... My reading challenge. I have a goal to read 100 books. I had a 3 month lapse, where I couldn't do anything but study due to my end of school exams. I've downloaded 11 stories onto my Kindle, and before leaving to NYC I tried to read 32 books in 19 days. I only started 7 days before leaving, though. So... I'm almost there. I'm going to have to do some major cramming every night (a book every 2 days?) to achieve my goal. Did you have a reading goal this year?  the other one

A Court of Thorns and Roses Review

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses #1)  by Sarah J. Maas 3.75/5 stars How can I love a book by SJM dearly; but LOATHE ToG sooooo much?????

Landline Review

Image
Landline by Rainbow Rowell 2.5 stars. For me, it was a little confusing and then slowly turned boring. I felt sad for her for most of the book, and didn't think she should return to Neal.  I was greatly appreciating her best friend who's a guy and how they maintained a platonic relationship, but oop- nope- ruined . Suddenly "I love you"'s were exchanged, and my expectations were disappointed once again. For a comedian, she was not very funny.  I don't know why I found this under the YA section: it wasn't in YA perspective nor would it interest many, IMO. It's about a nearly 40 something, almost divorcee who's sad over Christmas.  People who would enjoy this book probably like Love Actually. I am not one of those people. On the plus side, here's some quotes that I enjoyed and highlighted on my kindle;  1. "And time is an illusion." "You're a DELusion. We can't write four scripts b...

The Goddess Test Review

Image
The Goddess Test (Goddess Test #1)  by Aimee Carter 4/5 stars. What a great story!!!  It's written wonderfully-- no complaints there. It always made sense and never confused me. Nor did it bore me.  The characters were really interesting-- if you like how Riordan characterises the Greek gods, then check this out!  At the beginning I didn't know whether to ship Kate with Dylan, James or Henry. For some reason I thought Henry was an old man so I was jokingly saying including him in my question-- but oh. Oh boy. What a cute couple they are!!!!!! It's really angsty , but with lighter undertones so it isn't too #HelpImInForks #IHateTheCold&Wet  I've read a phew revivals on Persophone x Hades, but this is probably top 2. I also love Meg Cabot's revival, so if you like her writing (for paranormal romances) you'll like this. The ending was excellent. Some may say it's cliche , I don't know, I'm usually unobservant when it c...

Exploring My Bookshelves #1

Exploring My Bookshelves  @  Addlepates and Book Nerds . Take a “shelfie” (a picture of your bookshelf) and then use one of the books on your shelves to answer the weekly prompt. The best of the best – a 100 post annoucement!  This is a picture of books not on shelves. Why? Because I ran out of space.  But I can surely say that the best of the best for 2016 was Lady Midnight (or Obsidian... I love them both so dearly). I've written reviews on every book (except Life and Death), please check them out:  HoO #2: Son of Neptune Stolen: A Letter to My Captor Sweet Peril Lux: Opposition What's the best book you've read in 2016? the other one
