Looking for Alaska Review

Image
Looking for Alaska by John Green 4/5 stars. What a beautiful story. It wasn't what I expected from John Green (so many porn references what is this), but I certainly recognised aspects from his themes similar to Paper Towns. Somebody spoiled the whole drama for me years ago so I didn't get to enjoY the suspense. This book felt so authentic to teen angst. I felt every bit of emotion each of those kids was going through. Beautiful story, I'll definitely need to buy it (borrowing rn).

I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies #1) Review

Image
I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies #1) by Pittacus Lore 2.5/5 stars. It certainly wasn't like anything I've ever read-- except for Zeroes. This was a fantastic read but I spaced out a lot. If I wasn't motivated to reach my reading goal, I would've gone into a slump. However I may have not paid enough attention due to a party going on downstairs, as well as screaming children outside my door.

Switched (Trylle #1) Review

Image
Switched (Trylle #1) by Amanda Hocking 3/5 stars. When I read the blurb, I honestly thought it'd be way worse than what I've now read. However I'm not really interested in Trolls. It's a little too heavy on the side of high fantasy for me, sorry. It was moderately well written, but I find that for most high fantasy reads. I liked the protagonist's rational mind, she wasn't a cliche like almost EVERY OTHER YA FANTASY BOOK. She was actually skeptical and reluctant to abandon her old, mundane life. That was refreshing.

The Heir (The Selection #4) Review

Image
The Heir (The Selection #4) by Kiera Cass 4/5 stars. THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST I'VE READ, besides the finale; The One, from the prev trilogy. I must say, when I read on the first page how chill she was about becoming queen, I thought she'd be another bloody Mer. But noooo, thankfully. She has a lot more depth to her than her mother. I SHIP HER AND BADEN SO MUCH. As if we didn't get a resolution in the ending????? I thought this was a one off- spin off. There's actually ANOTHER one?????? Oh my lord. I guess I'll have to read it… I'm dying to know who she ends up with. Ps I don't like the spelling of Kile. MUST WE HAVE SUCH REDUNDANT SPELLINGS' OF NAMES??????

The Fill-In Boyfriend Review

Image
The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West 4/5 stars. This book was very sweet! I definitely shipped the main couple. It was a corny read, but I enjoyed every second of it! The writing style was so comfortable for me to read in. This has introduced me to a new favourite author, I'm sure :) The main protag was funny as heck, and I'd definitely suggest this to somebody who wants a quick contemporary read with a cute boy involved ;)

Will Grayson, Will Grayson (Will Grayson, Will Grayson) Review

Image
Will Grayson, Will Grayson (Will Grayson, Will Grayson) by John Green and David Levithan 2/5 stars. Things that were 5 stars: - the gayness - the humour Things that I hated almost as much as The Abudance of Katherines' footnotes for that 'quirky' format: - the random format of; "me: [bla bla bla] gideon: [reply]" JUST....... WRITE... WITH "". PLEASE. This wasn't my fave from Green NOR Levithan. And Levithan is my fave. I'm disappointed I'm sorry. But I do appreciate the gayness, that was funny as heck.

Six Earlier Days (Every Day 0.5) Review

Image
Six Earlier Days (Every Day 0.5) by David Levithan 3/5 stars. This wasn't nearly as good as the other 2, but I'm glad I read it. I thought it'd be just as important, but it wasn't. Only 47 pages, it's a good taster to see if you'd like Everyday.

The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer #1) Review

Image
The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer #1) by Jenny Han 3.75/5 stars. OHMYGOSH THAT'S ALL????? I wanna didn't know WHO I wasn't meant to ship her with. At times it was Conrad, other times Jeremiah, and then randomly Cam at the end. I'm still torn between the first two boys. Can is too new, he can leave. I NEED THIS TO CONTINUE. I WANT MY ENDING. This book was lovely to read, I enjoyed her going through the years. It reminded me of the flashbacks in We Were Liars.

The Assassin's Blade (Throne of Glass, #0.1-0.5) Reviews

Image
All are by SJM (obviously). 4/5 stars. It still isn't something I'd read again; BUT THIS IS BACK AT THE VERY BEGINNING WHEN CEL WAS ACTUALLY BADASS AND NOT A DICK LIKE SHE IS CURRENTLY. I loved it. Kicking sexism in the butt like a pro assassin ;D I found this instalment pointless, sorry. It had a sweet ending but I feel like nothing happened... "For the first time in a long while, she heard the song of a northern wind, calling her home. And she was not afraid." THIS ONE had some GREAT lines, and it had badass (although, cocky) Cel. That's what I like (not the cocky part, though). THIS IS MY FAVE SO FAR!!!!! We FINALLY see Sam and Cel being the cutest couple ever. I like Sam significantly more than ANY of the new love interests (Dorian, Khaol, or bloody Rowan). SJM pls write Sam in again. He's my fave. I read this on the plane and can't remember a single thing. That should say something.

Every Last Promise Review

Image
Every Last Promise by Kristin Halbrook   3/5 stars. This reminded me of We Were Liars, and the plot twist at the end shocked me nearly as much, but I still prefer reading WWL than this. It was an intriguing read but still full enough for me to go take a nap straight after. The writing was good! It respected the idea of sexual assault. It was definitely a book that was needed in the YA community. Give it a read, but definitely have a warning; rape is a major concept in this story.

Evermore (The Immortals #1) Review

Image
Evermore (The Immortals #1) by Alyson Noel 3/5 stars. The main relationship w Damen and Ever (her name choice...... really??) was super powerful and cute… EXCEPT IT WAS BLOODY INSTALOVE. *screaming internally* The story was mediocre, it's definitely overhyped in the paranormal romance section. It's basically Fallen by Lauren Kate. But.. knock off. Not nearly as good. I wouldn't read this again, but I suggest it to younger teens who like Fallen and don't mind an easy to follow, cliche love story.

Review: How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire

Image
How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks My rating: 3 of 5 stars 3/5 stars. It could've been worse; but it could've been better. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. But this was published in 2005, and since 2005-- the world of vampire FanFiction was evolved, and my standards have too. Honestly it wasn't as cringey as I thought it'd ever be?? I feel indifferent to this book. It had 2 enjoyable, lively characters, it was just the author's narration that was a bit bazaar. But that's a romance novel for you-- the author words things with strange synonyms and hits the thesaurus hard. Their love story was only slightly too superficial for me. They had a very cheery journey. Pretty much fluff. The smut scene was extremely underwhelming- so if you're reading it for this reason, ignore it. The first half is basically in the mind of a dentist. That's it. View all my reviews

Underworld (Abandon #2) Review

Image
Underworld (Abandon #2) by Meg Cabot   3/5 stars. This was a super quick read for me, with a lack of depth that I was missing since reading the first book. The writing made complete sense, thank goodness. That's rare in a trashy YA paranormal romance, so I savour it. I'll surely be reading the sequel to see what finally happens to Pierce and John. The only reason I don't rave about this book is because my dad's name is John, and it's super weird for me to read Pierce daydream about John or think scandalous thing. I try to ignore it, but it does get weird. Poor Pierce, she went through even more heartbreak in the book. I want a resolution!!! She deserves the best, with John ofc!!

Review: Me Before You

Image
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes My rating: 4 of 5 stars 3.5/5 stars. From the reviews I knew it was going to be a sad ending. And I like Will's choice. It was sucky, but I respected him a lot. I think I would relate to his attitude. And yes. This all happened within 6 month. You know what? I still classify that as instalove, and I wasn't terribly attached. It still made me feel my feels though. Fantastic afternoon read while I'm PMSing. View all my reviews

Beautiful Darkness (Beautiful Creatures #2) Review

Image
Beautiful Darkness (Beautiful Creatures #2) by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl 4/5 stars. THIS WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST INSTALMENT!!!! Lena and Ethan were so much more mature, with even greater passion than the first one. There was a lack of awkwardness that I felt from the first book. The middle's angsty turn of events was unnecessary to me. Especially since their was no conclusion at the end. I felt like by the end it was very anticlimactic. So much build up, and of course, I have to read the next book. I feel like Lena barely had a part in this book. She didn't physically say much. Was their telepathic bond an excuse for the author to not use "" anymore? Who knows? I'm so pleased with this book, it had an excellent pace that was significantly more upbeat than the first.

Review: The Chemist

Image
The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer My rating: 4 of 5 stars 4/5 stars. This was such an awesome read! For anybody having doubts because, ohhh, it's written by the Twilight author-- forget about it. This is adult fiction at its finest! It was written beautifully and smoothly, such a pleasant read. It had some humorous scenes, but what I loved most was the suspense. My only other note is that I hate Kevin. Which you're supposed to. So well done, Steph. Another fantastic read! View all my reviews

Existence (Existence Trilogy #1) Review

Image
Existence (Existence Trilogy #1) by Abbi Glines 4/5 stars. Judging from the cover, I completely assumed this book would be crap. I WAS SO WRONG!!! What a lovely paranormal read!!! I would gladly read it again. Pagan (name choice, ofc) and Dank (couldn't take it seriously the entire time) were such a well written couple. A blended love story from bits like Mara Dyer, Underneath, and other Hades retellings I've read this year. This was one of the greater retellings, I must say. And how the author portrayed the teenagers--- other than 2D and obnoxious like in so many books, I really appreciated that. THE ENDING. HOW DARE THE AUTHOR GIVE ME THAT CLIFF HANGER... I need the sequel, STAT!!!

Review: Never Always Sometimes

Image
Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid My rating: 4 of 5 stars 4.5/5 stars. I loved it! It's promoted like CRAZY for "John Green fans". I'll tell you what: it's even better than John Green. It's his work; but with realistic, un-pretentious teenagers, who have decent epiphanies (okay JGreen still has good writing, in just saying, I have a slight disdain to his books- especially the older I grow, but this book was superb!). The first part was 2.5 stars. But by the end, it was thrilling. It portrayed teenagers dead-on. I loved it. I highly recommend for a quick contemporary read!! :) View all my reviews
