Exploring My Bookshelves #2

Image
Exploring My Bookshelves  @  Addlepates and Book Nerds . Take a “shelfie” (a picture of your bookshelf) and then use one of the books on your shelves to answer the weekly prompt. Here's one of my many shelves-- this one is a small one, though.  You can see I prefer paperbacks to hardbacks.  Hardbacks make me read slower, I think because I can't bend the book like I want it. They're also heavy and I'm constantly scared of ruining it.  That being said, I do love my Lady Midnight hardback. That's a gem. I also dislike the really  flexible softbacks, where the cover can't even stay upright.  Previous Exploring My Bookshelves posts: #1 What do you prefer? the other one

Book Traveling Thursdays #1

Image
Book Traveling Thursdays  @  The Girl Who Read too Much . Picking a book related to the weekly theme that is announced in the group  Goodreads page  (if you want to join click  here ) at the beginning of each month. After that you can write a blog post where you explain why you choose that book and choose different covers from different countries. To make it a little bit easy you are going to choose different editions of the original cover, the cover from your country, your favorite cover, and your least favorite cover. As you all know, I'm visiting NYC at the moment. I've visited several book stores and libraries, and I have noticed the varying covers from the UK/Australian versions.  For example, Dash and Lily's Book of Dares. LOOK AT ALL THE DIFFERENT COVERS???  They're all very pretty, but I own the second last one (as it was a gift). I borrowed from the library the one with the people on the front, and I like...

Mailbox Monday #4

Image
Mailbox Monday  is hosted weekly at  Mailbox Monday . Link to your post about the books you recently received. GOOD EVENING, READERS! HAPPY BOXING DAY! My friend in NYC is making me go to the Boxing Day sales-- save me. I'll probably run off to the Strand or any other book store close by. Yesterday was Christmas, which isn't really a mailbox occasion, however a certain stocking requested to be filled with books. I'm writing this in advanced, but what I hope I got in the stocking delivery was:  The 10th anniversary edition of one of my fave books: Vampire Academy .  That's pretty much it. Oh, and maybe:  I didn't even know Cassie released an illustrated novel??????? This is awesome! I need it!  Previous Mailbox Mondays: #1 #2 #3 What did you hope for in your Christmas stocking?  the other one

Friday 56 #4

Image
The Friday 56 (with Instagram 56)  @  Freda’s Voice . Grab a book, any book, and turn to page 56. Find a sentence that grabs you and post it either on your blog or on Instagram tagged with #Friday56. I actually hate this book meme, it requires too much of my time ugh.  This week's Friday 56 book is Matched by Ally Condie (wow I haven't read this book in years ).  "We aren't allowed to go into one another's residences, but I could imagine him standing there on the steps, looking like an older version of Xander".  Other Friday 56 posts: #1 #2 #3 Have you read Matched? the other one

What’s Next  @  Icey Books . Select 3-5 books that you want to read but can’t decide which one to read first. At the end of your post, ask readers to vote on which one you should read next. I'm unsure if anybody will actually comment, but I'll try anyways. Comment below which you think I should read and review next! the other one

Library Loot #3

Image
Library Loot  @  The Captive Reader  and    Silly Little Mischief . Share the books etc that you got from the library each week. Happy Mid-December! I'm writing this in advance, so if I'm correct, around this time I'd be well into my NYC trip. Which also means I have no books nor my local library near by.  However, that'd mean NYC's finest libraries were a helluva lot closer.  I've booked a tour to one that's a part of a NY Museum, hopefully I can take pics and share them to this blog.  As you know, my goal is to read 100 books this year. I'm definitely hitting up the library to achieve this goal! As well as using my Kindle.  But I read faster when I have a good-smelling, small fonted paperback in my chilly, baby-sized hands.  This library is the New York Public Library, which I'll hopefully borrow from soon:  This is from George Peabody Library:  They're stunning. But if they don't have a range o...

Top Ten Tuesday #2

Image
Top Ten Tuesday  @  The Broke and the Bookish . Writing prompts (posted in advance) for “10 Books That …” November 29 : Holiday Gift Guide freebie (ten books to buy the YA lover in your life, 10 books to buy for your dad, etc.)  TOP X YA SERIES TO INTRODUCE TO YOUR RELUCTANT-READING FRIENDS 5: The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1)  by Suzanne Collins It's just one of those series that all teens know nowadays. They may be repealed by the popularity of it, or attracted to it due to the movies. Either way, it's a good place to start. 4: Twilight (Twilight #1)  by Stephenie Meyer Just give it a go. The first one has a few mistakes in it, but trust me, from series like Throne of Glass, I've read worse debut novels.  3: City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1)  by Cassandra Clare   This first instalment sucks compared to the rest of them. If they are a fan of Harry Potter, and that seems like everybody in the world aged 7-30,...

Bookmark Monday  @  Guiltless Reading . If you have a bookmark to share leave a comment on the Monday post. In my previous post, I said I use just about anything as a bookmark. I also said I have a million of Book Depository's lying around my bookshelves.  This is my all-time favourite bookmark from Book Depository: I've been lucky enough to snag 2 of these, and oddly enough they came with my favourite books from 2016:  1: Obsidian  (review) 2: Lady Midnight  (review) Looooooove these books, just as much as the bookmark!  Previous Bookmark Monday: #1 What is your most prized bookmark? the other one

Stacking the Shelves #1

Image
Stacking the Shelves  @  Team Tynga’s Reviews . All about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! Well I've been away in NYC for over a month now... I really miss physical copies of books.  I'll probably head down to the local libraries to borrow some of my favourites; like the Twilight Saga or the Infernal Devices.  What are you adding to your shelves?  the other one

Book Beginnings #2

Image
Book Beginnings  @  Rose City Reader . Share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Today I'm showing the first sentence from  Existence (Existence Trilogy #1)  by Abbi Glines : I think this story will have instalove, for sure. And some sort of teen angst between the female protag and either her father or best friend. She'll think she's completely inadequate for him; this 2 dimensional paranormal love interest who shows no affection to her until after they proclaim their love. Until then; he'll be stark cold. How right was I? We'll see soon, once I review it. Previous Book Beginning's posts: #1 the other one

Thursday Quotables #1

Image
Thursday Quotables  @  Bookshelf Fantasies . Highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during your reading each week. From HoO #2, Son of Neptune:  “Um...is that thing tame?" Frank said. The horse whinnied angrily. "I don't think so," Percy guessed. "He just said, 'I will trample you to death, silly Chinese Canadian baby man'.” Percy's one liners are always the highlight of reading Riordan's stories... aside from Percabeth...  What's a quote you adored this week?  the other one
